How to actually win the For You page

The FYP isn't luck. It's a system of signals you can earn. Here's the playbook we use to make it repeatable.

The For You page feels like a lottery. It isn't. It's a recommendation engine reacting to a handful of signals, and once you understand which ones it weighs, distribution stops being something that happens to you and starts being something you build.

The signals that move the needle

  • Watch time and completion rate — the single strongest signal
  • Re-watches and the all-important second view
  • Shares to DMs and other platforms, not just public shares
  • Comments that the algorithm reads as conversation, not spam

Notice what's missing: follower count. The FYP doesn't care how big you are. It cares whether the next person it shows the video to keeps watching. That's the whole game.

Engineering the first three seconds

Completion rate is decided in the opening frame. If the hook doesn't earn the next second, nothing else matters. We test hooks ruthlessly — same video, five different openings — and let the data pick the winner before we ever scale spend behind it.

You're not making a video. You're making the first three seconds, then justifying them.

Volume beats genius

No one can predict which video pops. The brands that win post enough that they don't have to. A consistent, high-volume content engine gives the algorithm more chances to find your audience — and gives you more data about what works.

Pair that volume with fast iteration: when something lands, make ten more like it within the week while the trend is still warm. Speed is the multiplier most brands never use.
